It matters to us that our colleagues can be their true selves at work. We're committed to creating a diverse workforce that represents the members, clients and communities that we serve, and creating an inclusive culture where everyone feels able to be themselves and can achieve their potential. This is how we're doing it.
We're creating an environment where everyone can be themselves, perform at their best, and truly belong.
We share responsibility for progress, embedding inclusion in how we lead, make decisions, and hold ourselves accountable.
We strive to attract, develop, and retain diverse talent to build innovative, high-performing teams.
We're removing barriers and ensuring fair, accessible opportunities for everyone.
We collaborate with diverse suppliers and community partners to drive meaningful impact together.
Our Networks
Our colleague-led networks bring our inclusion goals to life. Creating communities that drive change, awareness, and belonging.
Race
Our Race Network leads the way in championing cultural inclusion and visibility across our organisation. Drawing on lived experience, storytelling, and meaningful dialogue, the network brings colleagues together to learn, connect, and better understand the perspectives of ethnically diverse communities, playing a vital role in shaping our wider inclusion work. The network also collaborates with community partners to ensure our commitment to race equity extends beyond the workplace and into the communities we serve.
LGBTQ+
Our LGBTQ+ Network plays a vital role in championing inclusion by connecting, supporting, and empowering LGBTQ+ colleagues. The network creates safe and welcoming spaces for open conversation, leads awareness campaigns that deepen understanding, and encourages visible allyship across the organisation. Beyond the workplace, they strengthen our community impact through volunteering, fundraising, and meaningful partnerships with local LGBTQ+ groups, helping to create a more inclusive society for everyone.
Women in Leadership
Our Women in Leadership Network empowers women to grow, progress, and succeed at every level of the Society. By creating meaningful opportunities for learning, connection, and visibility, the network helps build confidence, develop capability, and support career advancement. Beyond the workplace, they strengthen our community impact through volunteering, fundraising, and meaningful partnerships with charities and community organisations across the North East, supporting women and girls to thrive in our region.
DAWN
Our Disability Awareness Network (DAWN) champions inclusion by breaking down stigma and removing barriers for disabled colleagues, customers and communities. The network shines a light on challenges, raises awareness of lived experiences, and promotes accessible and inclusive practices across the Society. Through education, advocacy, and practical support, DAWN helps create a workplace where everyone can fully participate, access opportunities, and feel valued.
Menopause
Our Menopause Network is dedicated to building understanding, awareness, and meaningful support for colleagues experiencing menopause. The network provides practical education, guidance, and safe spaces for open, honest conversations. Through events, resources, and peer support, it helps break down stigma, promotes wellbeing, and ensures colleagues feel empowered and supported to continue thriving at every stage of their career.
Parents and Carers
Our Parents & Carers Network supports colleagues who balance work with caring responsibilities by creating a connected, supportive community. The network offers space to share experiences, access practical guidance, and raise awareness of the realities faced by parents and carers across our organisation. By collaborating with other colleague networks and partnering with external experts, they champion best practice, influence policy, and help strengthen the support available to every colleague with caring responsibilities.
Our Partners
We work with industry experts to continuously strengthen inclusion, wellbeing, and belonging.
Health and wellbeing
Our colleagues' health and wellbeing is important to us, so we have a dedicated team, as well health and wellbeing advocates and mental health first aiders across the organisation.
Our health and wellbeing hub
We're committed to being a great place to work and helping our communities make positive changes. We've integrated health and wellbeing into day to day activities to create a positive and healthy working environment. Our health and wellbeing hub offers our colleagues easy access to all of the resources available to them.
Health and wellbeing advocates
We have a group of dedicated Health and Wellbeing advocates, here to support our colleagues. As well as promoting health and wellbeing events and campaigns, they're available to signpost to sources of support, advice and information. They also take feedback and suggestions from colleagues to make real, positive change.
Supporting our colleagues
Having healthy and happy colleagues is something we truly care about, so we're here to support our colleagues when they need it the most. From mental health, working environments, experiencing loss, or financial wellbeing, we're here. As well as internal support, colleagues also have access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), as well as other people living in their household.
