Newcastle Building Society is giving local children a £10 boost towards their future this summer as it launches a special Children’s Saver account alongside its involvement in NE1's Tiny Toon 2026.
To help encourage positive saving habits from an early age, the Society will deposit £10 into every new children's “Tiny Saver” savings account opened at its Monument branch throughout the summer, giving young savers a small boost to help them get started.
The initiative forms part of Newcastle Building Society's participation in Tiny Toon 2026, the free family attraction taking over Old Eldon Square from 20 July to 31 August. More than 110,000 visitors are expected to attend the six-week event, which recreates some of Newcastle’s most recognisable buildings and businesses in miniature and encourages children to learn through imaginative roleplay.
As part of the experience, Newcastle Building Society will create a child-sized version of its branch within Tiny Toon, helping introduce young visitors to simple money concepts through fun, interactive activities centred around the idea that small steps today can help build brighter futures tomorrow.
Families visiting Tiny Toon can continue the fun at Newcastle Building Society's Monument branch, and children's activity packs will be available from Tiny Toon on selected days. Children who complete the Tiny Toon trail challenge can collect rewards from the Society’s Monument branch, including Tiny Saver stickers, chocolate coins and seeds. They can also enter a Design Your Own Passbook competition where they will be automatically entered into a raffle to win Newcastle United Foundation-themed prizes, with the winning design featured on a future children's passbook.
The campaign also shines a spotlight on Newcastle Building Society's long-standing commitment to supporting local communities through its partnership with Newcastle United Foundation, which delivers programmes that improve the lives of people across the North East.
Nichola Henderson, head of branch network at Newcastle Building Society, said: “We wanted our involvement in Tiny Toon to be about more than simply having a presence at the event. We wanted to create something that aims to benefit local families.
“By giving every child who opens a savings account with us a £10 contribution, we're helping young people start saving and demonstrating how even small amounts can grow over time.
"Tiny Toon provides a great setting to start those conversations in a way that's engaging, positive and accessible for families. As a mutual organisation founded in the North East, we're proud to support children and communities across our region while showcasing the fantastic work delivered through our partnership with Newcastle United Foundation."
Earlier this year Newcastle Building Society announced plans to strengthen its long-standing partnership with Newcastle United Foundation with a new programme designed to boost opportunity, employability and wellbeing for people across the North East.
The collaboration will support a network of community hubs in Ashington, Gateshead Metrocentre and Howdon that play a vital role in helping young people develop the skills and confidence they need to move closer to the world of work.
Families visiting the miniature branch at Tiny Toon will be encouraged to continue their savings journey at the Monument branch, where they can find out more about the Society's children's savings accounts and claim the £10 "Tiny Saver” head start.
