Trusted local branch services on your high street
We’re continuing to invest in our branches, growing our presence on high streets and in communities across the region, because we believe face-to-face financial services and advice matter.
Our members regularly tell us they value choice in how they manage their money. But with more than 6,600 bank branch closures over the past 10 years, many people are losing this choice. We’re on a mission to keep offering brilliant financial services – whether that’s digitally, over the phone, or in person at one of our branches.

Pauline, customer at Consett branch
“With so many banks closing it’s harder to speak to someone about your savings face-to-face. One of the things I like most about my Newcastle Building Society branch is that if I have an issue I can sit down with someone and have a proper conversation.”
We’re here for you
We’ve designed our branches to be warm, welcoming spaces. We’ve recently upgraded our branches in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough, opened a new branch in Pickering, and invested in a new flagship branch in Newcastle city centre.
Mrs Maddison
“At both Whickham and Monument branches you receive a really personal service, the branch staff know who you are and when you’re going to come.”
Working with our communities
Our five innovative community partnership branches share space with other local services and organisations, such as the Post Office, libraries, and information centres.
We’ve also introduced a OneBanx multi-bank kiosk in our Gosforth, Pickering, and Hexham branches. The kiosks let you deposit and withdraw cash to your bank account for free – and you don’t have to be one of our customers to use it.
In communities where other banks have closed, this helps residents and local businesses continue to access cash without leaving town.
Amy Brown, owner of Hexham Sweetie Jar
“Hexham is a cash-friendly town. People still like to use cash and businesses like mine want to be able to accept it. The kiosk means we can do that easily. It’s reassuring to know that there’s somewhere convenient in town where we can continue to do our banking properly.”
