We know some people love their passbook because it helps them feel more connected to their savings.

A passbook is also something to treasure. They tell the story of your money, whether it’s saving for a first home, a new car, a wedding, or simply putting some money aside for a loved one.

To celebrate our commitment to passbooks, we worked with three local artists to reimagine the cover artwork, giving them a fresh new look that highlights the benefits of saving with a passbook.

Alongside customers who choose to use our digital channels, we also listen to those who prefer to manage their money in-branch to help build healthy savings habits.

Lisa Kirkbride

“I have a real passion for illustrating florals, and I set out to create a vibrant, colourful pattern that captures the essence of the region. To achieve this, I incorporated flowers associated with various counties and regions across the North East, North Yorkshire, and Cumbria, interpreting them in my graphic, abstracted style. My goal was to design a contemporary and uplifting image, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colours found in the natural landscape.”

Barrie Watson

"My aim with this painting was to use bright colours and free strokes to evoke a sense of movement and excitement, representing the bold spirit of the North East. This dynamism is central to my style, bringing a sense of drama and optimism. For me, this piece represents more than just a painting. It’s a bridge between the past and the present, a reminder that tools like passbooks can hold a vibrant, modern energy when given a fresh perspective.”

Joanne Wishart

“This piece captures the beauty of the North East while metaphorically celebrating the strength and security that savings provide, offering a visual narrative of hope and happiness for the future. My wish is that people will cherish the passbook as their savings grow, treasuring it as a keepsake for those special purchases and milestones in life.”
