Newcastle Building Society celebrated the official launch of its new North Shields community branch with a special event for members, residents and the local community.
The new branch, located within the YMCA North Tyneside community building, is part of our multi-year, multi-million pound investment into accessible face-to-face financial services in our communities.
Attendees included YMCA North Tyneside customers and staff, who helped cut the ribbon to officially declare the new branch open.
Following the move from our previous branch on Bedford Street in North Shields, we’ve placed our full range of branch services and advice in the heart of YMCA North Tyneside’s vibrant building, sharing space with their gym, café and supported accommodation.
North Shields is our latest community branch in our network, following the success of our community partnership branch model in Hawes, Wooler, Yarm, and Knaresborough.
We’re continuing to provide our full range of products and services in North Shields and have also invested in the creation of new community spaces and private meeting rooms.
More than 6,000 bank branches have closed since 2015, leaving many people without access to essential financial services, or making it harder for them to manage their money.
As part of our Purpose of connecting our communities with a better financial future, we’ve remained committed to providing financial services that are easily accessible.
This includes opening branches in new locations, like North Shields, as well as restoring access to financial services in places where banks have left town.
Our future investment includes a new flagship branch in Newcastle City Centre and working with North Tyneside Council to open another new community branch in Tynemouth, after the local library is redeveloped.
