We're committed to the people and places that make up our heartland

We help members from all walks of life own their own home, save for the future, and receive trusted financial advice. We’ve been providing essential services to generations of members for more than 160 years.

Last year, we focused on building and strengthening the relationships we have in our communities.

Our 2023 Community Impact summarises how we achieved this, through our community contributions, long-term partnerships, colleague volunteering, and innovative approach to making face-to-face financial services convenient and accessible.

A volunteering milestone

In 2023, our colleagues volunteered more than 10,000 hours of their time, skills, and experience to causes that they are passionate about.

From coaching sports and teaching tech skills to children to participating in Pride parades and marshalling at sporting events, they supported a range of activities in their communities.

We have volunteering-friendly policies, including two paid volunteering days each year, that empower colleagues to support their local communities in ways that are flexible and work for them. If you'd like to help make a difference, why not join the team?

Record community grant support

Throughout 2023, the Newcastle Building Society Community Fund at the Community Foundation continued to support local charities working to tackle issues linked to employability, food poverty, debt management, homelessness, and the environment.

A total of £170,253 was awarded to 45 charities across the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire, with our largest ever allocation of small grants awarded in the spring.
