We are the region’s largest building society with 32 branches on high streets stretching across the North East, Cumbria and North Yorkshire.  We care about where we are from and are deeply committed to making a positive difference for the people and places that make up our heartland.

We’re owned by our customers (not shareholders), which allows us to focus on what’s really important – delivering great value through the products we offer, providing our customers with amazing service and building a sustainable, successful business that benefits our Members, communities and region, both now and in the future.

What we do

Our purpose is to "connect our communities to a better financial future" and it guides us in everything we do.

We help members from all walks of life to own their own homes, save for the future and receive trusted financial advice. We’ve provided essential services to generations of members for more than 160 years.

However, we also understand that as the region’s building society, our role is about much more than just financial products and services:

As an employer, we play our part in fostering talent from within the region and creating, lasting meaningful careers.

Through the support we give to our communities and our high streets, we aim to help make positive change happen in our region, building stronger more vibrant communities

In our relationships with other businesses and our partners, we want to help them succeed while also helping our region thrive and prosper.

We aim to be a responsible business – caring for our environment and ensuring sustainability for future generations; building connections and behaviours that will encourage diversity and inclusion and making a positive difference to people’s lives for the long term.

Where we are

In a highly digital world that is becoming less personal and more remote, our commitment to our high streets and providing face-to-face banking is stronger than ever.

We want people to have access to local financial services and believe that branches play an essential role in the heart of our communities.

That doesn’t mean we don’t invest in the latest technologies – we believe technology can bring people closer together and strengthens human connections.

Putting a face to a name, taking a genuine interest and always being there is important to us because it is important to our customers.  Time is a commodity that we are keen to share with our customers, particularly when it means we get to know or support them better.

We love a proper conversation; wherever and whenever it might happen.

We believe…

We exist to make a difference and improve lives by connecting our communities with a better financial future.

We believe that everyone deserves a home and to have the opportunity to save and plan for their future.

We believe in doing what we can to help people achieve their hopes, dreams and goals in life.

We believe in acting with courage in the best interests of our Members, communities and our region,

We believe in our high streets and that it is important that we are physically present at the heart of communities.

We believe in the potential of people and the power of community and that opportunity is for everyone.

We believe in playing our part in making the world a better place.
