The safety of our customers, colleagues and communities is very important to us – here are some of the ways we protect you and your money.
When taking money out of your account, you may be asked to complete a withdrawal form and/or answer questions regarding your transaction. This is to protect our customers and their money, as well as raise awareness about fraud and scams.
Before you can pay money in or take money out, of your Newcastle Building Society savings account, we will perform security checks online, in branch and over the phone. This may be confirming your identity or requesting account security information.
We take security of your data seriously and ensure that your information is always secure and available. If we suspect your account to be the target of a fraudster or cyber-criminal, we may freeze your account to stop money being moved without your permission. We complete testing on all our applications and platforms to ensure that your money, personal information and account security details are safe.
There are often steps you can take to keep yourself and your money safe. Please visit our dedicated page for ways you can protect yourself against fraud.
We will only post account opening documents to your proven address.
If you request to change your nominated account with us, we will ask you to verify this change by inputting a code that we issue to you.
For business savings customers, this will be to your trading address. For all other savings and investments customers, this will be to your verified residential address.
If there are changes made to your address, nominated bank account or email address, we will notify you about these changes.
If you haven’t made these changes, see our security and fraud prevention page, for further information on contacting us to report a scam or fraud.
Please keep your contact details up to date with us, so that we can make you aware of any changes.
Confirmation of Payee (CoP) is an account name checking service facilitated by Pay.UK. It is designed to reduce fraud, prevent payments from being sent to the wrong accounts and enhance the security of customers' accounts by requiring name checks to be carried out between bank or building society accounts.
Newcastle Building Society joined the Confirmation of Payee scheme in September 2024.
Visit our Confirmation of Payee (CoP) page, for further information.
From 7th October 2024, banks and building societies are required to reimburse the victims of Authorised Push Payment (APP) fraud. Where an APP fraud has occurred, customers should receive reimbursement aligned to set rules, timescales and requirements.
Please visit our Authorised Push Payment (APP) Fraud page, for more information.
