Frequently asked questions

Can I transfer part of an ISA to Newcastle Building Society?

When transferring money from an existing ISA held with another provider to Newcastle Building Society, you can:

  • Transfer the full amount of your cash ISA opened in the current tax year,
  • choose to transfer previous years subscriptions either in part or in full, or
  • transfer the full amount of the current year's subscriptions combined with the previous year's subscriptions in part or in full.

When transferring an ISA to Newcastle Building Society, you will need to first open a cash ISA with us. You must allow your providers to arrange the transfer on your behalf. Failure to do this may mean your savings lose their tax-free status.

How long does an ISA transfer take?

Once we have received your transfer details, we will contact your provider to organise the transfer. A cash ISA transfer should take no longer than 15 working days and a stocks and shares ISA 30 calendar days to complete. However, if you’re still waiting for your transfer to come through after this time, you should contact your provider as soon as possible.

When can I transfer my existing ISAs?

Some cash ISAs may incur a penalty if you transfer or withdraw your savings too early. When you decide to move your ISA may depend on whether your existing ISA has any withdrawal penalties and if you want to accept these.

For easy access ISAs without any withdrawal penalties, you will be able to transfer your savings when you choose to.

If you are transferring a fixed rate ISA or an ISA that has notice, you could incur a penalty if you decide to transfer your savings before the end of the term.

Your ISA product terms and conditions will confirm any withdrawal terms that may apply or you can contact your ISA provider for information.

How do I transfer my Newcastle Building Society ISA to another provider?

You will need to contact your new ISA provider, who will arrange the transfer with us. We aim to complete your transfer in five working days (from the date we receive your request and providing the account does not have any notice to be served).
