The Newcastle Building Society Community Fund at the Community Foundation has donated a total of £68,240 to 14 charities in its latest round of grants.

The grants will support a range of local charities across the region, working to tackle our community priorities of food poverty, debt management, access to work and opportunities, and the environment and sustainability.

Donna Stubbs, Community Manager at Newcastle Building Society, stood outside the Whitley Bay branch.

Donna Stubbs, our Community Manager

"Guided by the insight from the Vital Signs report and On the Table discussions, we’ve listened to what our communities need most and made real progress on supporting that with our latest round of grants. Many of the grants are helping cover core costs, which we know is essential for charities to keep delivering their much-needed services.”

The charities receiving grants are spread throughout the region covering our whole branch network.

Some of the successful recipients this round include:

  • West View Advice and Resource Centre, Hartlepool – providing debt advice and financial management support to disadvantaged people in Hartlepool
  • Low Mill Outdoor Education Centre, North Yorkshire – creating an interactive nature room at the centre in Leyburn.
  • West Northumberland Foodbank – helping people experiencing hardship by covering core running costs of the foodbank in Hexham.
