Newcastle Building Society is collecting warm clothing and other essentials at its branches to help people experiencing homelessness.

We’re supporting Changing Lives with their annual Christmas appeal.

This festive season, we’re using our branches in the North East as donation points, collecting much-needed essentials for the charity.

Help change lives this Christmas

We’re inviting customers, colleagues, and the local community to pop into our branches with good-quality, warm items – such as coats, hats, scarves, gloves – or gifts, and toiletries.

Changing Lives is a local charity that supports people experiencing homelessness, addiction, or domestic abuse. Originally operating in just the North East, they now help people all over the country, supporting over 14,000 people every year.

"This appeal will make a real difference to people using our frontline services across the North East. The warm items donated will be distributed quickly to those most in need, helping to protect people from the cold and showing them that they’re not forgotten."

If you’d prefer to donate money, you can support the Changing Lives Christmas Meal Appeal. Every £5 donated will buy a hot meal for someone in need.

The donations will also help provide:

  • Essential food parcels for those unable to afford food
  • Cooking equipment so service users can make more home cooked meals
  • Cookery classes so service users can develop their cooking skills and learn how to budget
  • Welcome household packs including items such as bedding and kitchen appliances (kettle, toaster, microwave, or air fryer)
  • Welcome toiletry packs including items such as shampoo, body wash, sanitary items, or dental hygiene products

The winter collection is the latest in our ongoing relationship with Changing Lives.

Earlier this year, Changing Lives received a donation of £3,000 from the Newcastle Building Society Community Fund at the Community Foundation North East to support their Multiple Exclusions Team (MET). The MET helps some of the most vulnerable people in Newcastle, doing welfare checks and giving out vital supplies.

Our partnership with Changing Lives is also part of our wider commitment to help boost the prosperity of the North East. Homelessness is one of our key community priorities this year, and we’re helping tackle this through our grant giving, colleague volunteering, or partnerships with local organisations.
