On 7th July, Newcastle Building Society is opening the doors to its new home at Monument, in Newcastle city centre.
As well as a welcoming branch offering financial services for all, all five floors of the 200-year-old, Grade II-listed building have been refurbished to create modern and flexible spaces for local charities, community groups and partners. It’s part of our aim to help the city and wider region thrive.

As well as a brand-new, full-service branch, you’ll find more room for face-to-face conversations about your finances and private meeting rooms.

Andrew Haigh, our Chief Executive Officer
"We’re ready to throw open the doors to Monument and welcome the whole community to our new city centre home – a place for meaningful conversations which will empower the people of the North East to thrive. As well as an investment in the bricks and mortar of a building, Monument is an investment in the social and community fabric of our city, which will serve the city’s future for generations to come."
Over the last 10 years, more than 6,300 bank branches have closed across the UK. Despite this, we’ve continued to invest in and grow our branch network across the North East, North Yorkshire, and Cumbria. Our new home at Monument shows our continued support for the high street and demand for face-to-face financial services.
Andrew adds: "A historic building reimagined as a vibrant community hub, the work on Monument shows we’re wholly committed to the places where we are present by bringing together partners, charities, and civic and community leaders in a central space, reflecting our ambition as a place-based, purpose-led organisation.”
Our current branch on Northumberland Street will stay open until 5th July 2025. Then all members and colleagues will transfer to Monument.
