When it opens its doors at Monument, Newcastle Building Society will make magnificent city centre views available to the public for the first time in decades.
Our new home will be a place to boost North East prosperity, offering incredible views of the iconic Grey’s Monument alongside friendly, accessible face-to-face financial services.
Work continues to bring areas of the Grade II listed building at 155-159 Grainger Street back into public use for the first time in decades.
As well as a welcoming branch offering financial services for all, all five floors of the 200-year old building are being brought back to life for use by businesses, charities and civic groups to help the city and wider region thrive.
We’re adding modern, flexible events and meeting spaces, and community rooms to create a welcoming space for people to work together.

Stuart Miller, our Chief Commercial Officer
“We’re making great progress on our new home at Monument, taking care as we bring an iconic building thoroughly back to life and creating somewhere that everyone will feel welcome. This will be a place for the whole community to belong, and by throwing open the doors to local groups, charities and partners, we’re returning the building to the people of Newcastle to create a home in the heart of the city. A place for our communities to connect and collaborate. And of course, we’ll have a full-service branch that will be generously staffed by a fantastic team offering face-to-face financial services.”
Stuart adds: "The refurbishment project has thrown up a few surprises and there is still more to do, but just seeing the views out of the meeting and office spaces on the upper floors is incredible. Things are on track to open this summer and we’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together with such an amazing place."
While the new place is taking shape, you can still rely on our friendly, personal service at our current Newcastle branch at 136 Northumberland Street.
