Joanne Mercer is the Chief Internal Auditor for Newcastle Building Society, where she leads the delivery of internal audit services across the Group.
She began her early career as an accountant before moving into internal audit, and has over 30 years’ experience leading and developing internal audit functions across financial services, retail, and public sector organisations.
Her previous roles included serving as Head of Internal Audit for the North-East and Cumbria Co-Op, leading audit services across a diverse portfolio encompassing food and non food retail, funeral services, a national motor group, and farming operations. Joanne has also held senior internal audit positions within the NHS and has non-executive experience as a pension trustee.
